  • The toll: Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported 22 people killed in Pryluky, including five children, and 54 injured, including seven children, as of the morning of Oct. 8. The figures are the agency’s city-level count, not a nationwide total.[1][2]

  • Rescue work: The morning count followed an overnight rescue operation. Search, debris removal and work on damaged structures continued on Oct. 8, the emergency service said.[1]

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said 22 people were killed in the Russian strike on Pryluky, a city in the Chernihiv region. Five of the dead were children. The service reported 54 injured, including seven children, in an update relayed by the Interior Ministry on the morning of Oct. 8.[1][2]

The count followed search-and-rescue work through the night at a five-story apartment building hit on Oct. 7. The State Emergency Service said crews were still clearing rubble and dismantling damaged structures when it issued the morning tally.[1][2][3]

Emergency personnel rescued 15 people from the site, including one child, the ministry said. The service’s update described work to remove debris and dismantle damaged parts of the building, indicating the operation had not ended.[1]

The Associated Press also reported the rising death toll and cited Ukrainian emergency authorities. Its report said a missile hit the residential building. The figures in this update remain attributed to Ukrainian officials and are specific to Pryluky.[2][1]

Pryluky is in Ukraine’s northern Chernihiv region. This article reports the emergency service’s tally for the city and does not combine it with figures from other cities or with a nationwide toll from separate reports of the broader overnight attack.[1][2]

The State Emergency Service said the search and structural-clearance work continued on the morning after the strike. The agency’s figures are time-stamped estimates during an active response, and could be revised as crews complete their work.[1]
